Winter’s freezing temperatures have us daydreaming of sunny seasons ahead and the Spring/Summer collections. As we begin to hunt for the new strappy sandal and retro-inspired sunglasses, we can’t help but notice the evolution of swimwear and one brand that’s leading the way – Cover Clothing, the sun conscious swimwear line, made in the USA.

Dallas-based designers Lisa Moore and Robyn Stevens created a niche in the swimwear industry when they founded Cover Clothing in 2007. Since then, the designers have made it their mission to promote health and beauty through innovative fabrics and stylish silhouettes. Cover’s signature Protec Swim Jersey fabric blocks 98% of UV rays and is constructed in California, where the designers enjoy spending their summers. We asked Moore to give us the insider’s scoop on her favorite California coastal community of Carmel.

Carmel is the perfect getaway because…
The weather is cool and perfect all year round. It’s not too crowded and the people are friendly.

Packing essentials…
SPF 50+, everything for the beach and pool, sweatshirts and activewear for the whole family. A big chunky sweater, jeans and flats for evening, as we walk to all the restaurants and bars.

My beach beauty tips…
Mineral sunscreen, lip balm and sunglasses – always all natural at the beach.

For the best views…
Carmel Beach for sure. Also, Pebble Beach is beautiful and there is a great new restaurant called The Bench that overlooks the famous 18th hole on the golf course.

Favorite beaches…
Carmel Beach at the end of Ocean Avenue or Carmel River Beach which is great for the kids. The beach along the 17 mile drive is great for picnics, horseback rides and seal spotting.

The must-visit spot for lunch…
Wickets at Bernardus Lodge. It is a beautiful setting and always sunny and warm in Carmel Valley. They have croquet and bocce courts adjacent to the patio, so it’s really fun to take a group.

And for dinner…
La Bicyclette is always lively and has great locally sourced food and wine.

A perfect day in Carmel…
Wake up late and take a long walk along the beach before meeting friends for brunch. Then head to Point Lobos or Big Sur for a hike. Later, go for drinks at Spanish Bay and listen to the bagpipe players out by the fire pits. Have dinner in town then head over to Mundaka for live music or down to the beach for a bonfire.
