Dallas Art Fair Preview Gala
April 11, 2014
Now in its sixth year, the Dallas Art Fair is the city’s unofficial, and most stimulating, spring awakening. To kick off the three-day fair at the Fashion Industry Gallery, Neiman Marcus and DAF co-founders Chris Byrne and John Sughrue co-hosted a preview gala where the guests were as colorful as the art. Patrons in over-the-top wearable works (we even spotted a man-skirt in the mix) navigated F.I.G.’s museum-white maze of enclaves-turned-galleries to seek out new acquisitions from more than 90 national and international contemporary gallerists. The Ruinart-sipping crowd included Dallas Museum of Art director Maxwell Anderson, art dealer John Runyon, collectors Christen and Derek Wilson, Christie’s Capera Ryan, mixed-media artist James Verbicky (his Papillon En Fleur is featured on the May cover of the book). Rubbing artsy elbows is all part of the fun, sure, but a return trip will be required to take it all in and to secure one of those pretty red dots. Sold!
DAF runs through Sunday, April 16. For tickets and info, visit DallasArtFair.com.
