Lily Aldridge For Velvet
March 21, 2014
International supermodel, rock ‘n’ roll wide, mother, and style icon. It’s no surprise that Lily Aldridge’s second collaboration with Velvet by Graham & Spencer had led to the creation of a capsule collection as unique, eclectic, and desirable as she is. Finding a mix of inspiration from the laid-back Nashville attitude, modern NYC street style, and her own Cali-cool sensibility, the collection is a way to get a slice of Lily’s style hanging in your closet! She shares more, in her own words, bellow.
NM: What drew you to the project with Velvet for a second time?
LA: Honestly, it was kind of a no-‐brainer! The first collection was a sell-out success and it seemed like a good time to do another one. The first collaboration was so fun to do and getting to have true creative input in a project is also one of the reasons I love working with Jenny & Toni.
NM: What inspiration did you take for this collection?
LA: I’ve really fallen in love with Nashville where I live with my family. The style here is so varied and inspiring, a true mash-up of free‐spirited bohemianism and southern elegance. I wanted to try and capture some of that in this collection. I’m also always inspired by NYC and the vibrant street style that seems to be on every corner. So the inspiration really came from these two places predominantly, but I never lose sight of my lo-fi Californian sensibility!
NM: If you could sum the collection up in three words what would they be?
LA: Eclectic. Easy. Effortless.
NM: Do you have a favorite piece from the collection and if so why?
LA: This is a hard one, because I love them all but if I was pushed to choose, I think it would be the AZIYA Jacket. It’s an update to last collection’s RUBY Jacket which sold out! This time round, we fabricated it in a super cool leopard print. I’m a sucker for leopard print. It’s ridiculously versatile and can be thrown on over anything. I named it after my sweet, sweet niece.
NM: How would you sum up your personal style?
LA: It’s ever-changing and I really feel that my style reflects whatever mood I’m channeling that day. I love to dress up in heels and go for all‐out glamour, but I also love a classic, cool downtown look. I think above all, my style is pretty practical and easy.
How would you describe the quintessential model off duty look?
It’s a laid-‐back thrown-‐on vibe. Models spend their day jobs wearing wonderful outfits, so off-‐duty we’re typically just going for a cool, comfortable look that will get us around town!
