NM Buyer Sara’s Diary of Miami Swim Week
July 29, 2015
Swim Buyer Sara McMaster had a few busy days during the past month, previewing swimwear collections from South America, Australia and beyond for the Resort 2016 season. Miami, specifically South Beach, made the best scenario for swim presentations—think Versace Mansion and beachside pools as venues—along with the plethora of events that take place to celebrate the new season and new partnerships. Take an insider’s look at Sara’s diary, which includes her fave beachwear collections, as well as emerging trends you’ll spot on neimanmarcus.com before you know it. What collections were you most excited about this #MiamiSwimWeek? Tell us in the comments below.
Wheels up for Miami! Once we land and get checked in, we enjoy lunch at the W pool while “talking shop” with the Swimwear buyer at Bergdorf Goodman about our strategies for the season, the hottest emerging brands and our schedule for this market week. We also got to preview the runway shows at W South Beach WET!
Nothing welcomes you to Miami Swim Week like the hustle of trying to pack in all of the activities on South Beach. We kicked off the evening enjoying Simone Zimmermann’s cocktail party in the Penthouse at the new Miami Beach Edition Hotel. From there we went to 6 Shore Road’s runway show, and closed out the evening at their afterparty on the rooftop of the new eco-friendly 1 Hotel. It was a long night, but we were already feeling good about the trends for our Resort 2016 season!
Our first day of market is spent in the Cabana show tents—just steps from the beach! We sip on fresh coconut water as we stop and review the new collections from each brand.
Leave it to Mara Hoffman to shake things up at Swim Week. Instead of her traditional runway show, she launched her Resort 2016 Collection with a fashion presentation at the Versace Mansion on Ocean Drive. Nowadays it operates as a boutique hotel known as The Villa, Casa Casaurina, and it couldn’t have been a more perfect location. Another show to note for its fun, feminine, flirty pieces was Tori Praver’s at the Funkshion Tent in Collins Park.
After 2 days of market the trends start to emerge. Our favorite: DENIM & CHAMBRAY swimwear!
Back to the Funkshion Tent for Maaji’s “Rhapsody Road” Runway Show. Not only was the show captivating with its themed road trip and well-accessorized journey through beaches, deserts, rivers and shores, but this quickly became a personal favorite when they opened the show activewear! I’ve been busy at market in recent months looking for active brands to launch on neimanmarcus.com, so stay tuned!
Many of the brands were showing in suites at the Delano Hotel. The view from the Penthouse was amazing—who wouldn’t want to work here?
Finally a relaxing evening! We sipped on cocktails and hors d’oeuvres while watching the sunset at Hyde Beach in the SLS Hotel. This was Seafolly’s cocktail party, and with Gigi Hadid at the face of their international campaign, their swimwear has become more coveted than ever for our customers all over the world.
