10 Things: Fall Trends
October 14, 2016
Fashion’s many influences are the things sweet dreams are made of. Far-flung destinations, ancient civilizations, architecture, icons, idols—all have been muses, contributing to the great creative spirit that has filled influential runways for decades.
But no love affair in fashion has been as recurring or romantic as the one enjoyed with music. It’s a match made in heaven. The world’s greatest designers have long looked to music—past, present, and future—for the visual feast that sparks imaginations and its emotional ability to transform our moods.
The glitter of Bold Gold (my favorite glam metal) is one of the season’s most sensational accents. Its high-wattage shine is audacious and irreverent, appreciative of the past while displaying what “going glam” means today. If the world’s your stage, you won’t need additional lighting; this season celebrates a renewed love for sparkle, sheen, and sizzle.
Rounding out the moment: Boy-meets-girl gender blending, Fall Florals that know no season, and the theatrical hair and makeup—hello, Dramatic Eye—that defined Glam Rock and trickled into the Punk and New Romanticism trends already showing signs of a runway revival.
This season, I’m giving you full permission to gild the lily and glam it up like a rock goddess.
