The Art Of Fashion Fall 2014
August 5, 2014
“I like my work to ask questions of people,” says Nadav Kander. “That’s the thing that makes you stay with a picture or a painting or a play-if it somehow challenges you, then you remain interested.” For the Fall 2014 AOF portfolio—15 models in 31 exquisitely crafted designer looks—Kander envisioned a “visually uncomfortable” false-perspective set and “a gentle idea that nobody’s feet ever touch the floor.” The Tel Aviv–born Londoner is widely recognized for portraiture (Prince Charles for the cover of Time, Radiohead and Paul McCartney for Rolling Stone, Obama and his inaugural cabinet for The New York Times Magazine), landscapes, and photo essays. Yet he also embraces the originality and culturally important messages fashion delivers. In the end, he insists, “whether it’s a girl in a dress or a concrete bridge in a sunset makes no difference. It’s the feeling that matters.” And endures.
