Clare Vivier knows how to add an effortless quality to a girl’s look with her handbag collection. Clare V. fold-over clutches are a staple among street-style bloggers who either carry the pouch on the go or use it as a bag-within-a-bag for busy office days. If you don’t yet have one—they come in monogrammed versions and in all kinds of leather combinations—you should take a stroll to our CUSP Century City store this Saturday and see Vivier with her latest Clare V. collection in person. We ourselves can’t wait to get our hands on the fold-over “Bordeaux” bag! Now, see what Vivier has to say about living in Los Angeles, her inspiration for the latest collection and what actually drove her to become a handbag designer.

NM: What’s the one bag you remember falling in love with, and what made you want to become a handbag designer?
CV: My design career actually started more out of necessity. I realized I needed a chic laptop case while working in France and couldn’t find one that was functional and still looked good enough to carry around. That’s when I realized the need was there, and I created my first bag.

NM: What was your inspiration for the Clare V. collection for Spring?
CV: I was so inspired by the textiles and patterns of Central and South America. They’re so vibrant, and the colors were a wonderful jumping off point for the collection. The textures are beautifully lightweight to carry you from Spring straight into Summer.

NM: There’s something effortless about your fold-over clutches. Where is the girl who carries them going?
CV: I think that is the best part about them—the fold-over clutch is easy and roomy enough to take you anywhere you need to go. I love carrying mine during the day if I want something effortless, and most of the girls who work in the studio stash theirs in their totes to grab and go at night.

NM: Do you think that a clutch works as a daytime accessory, as well as a nighttime essential?
CV: Absolutely. I’ve always thought that there should be no time limits or restrictions on what you wear, where or when, and the clutch is no exception. I love a clutch for day; it’s really so easy.

NM: Where do you find inspiration in LA?
CV: It can really come from anywhere – from art I see, to the beautiful natural landscape here, to the ever-changing cultural scene and even the girls in the studio, who are a source of constant inspiration.

NM: An app/tech accessory you cannot live without…
CV: Does a card case count? I’ve always got my monogrammed card case with me wherever I go, and the iPad cases for Spring are really cute right now too.

NM: What’s on your playlist right now?
CV: We’ve had a lot of Common playing on Pandora recently.

Meet Clare Vivier on Saturday, April 12 at CUSP Century City from 2 to 5 pm. #OntheCUSP
