“30 years later, I see style as an evolution, a unique reflection of who you are, where you’ve been, and where you’re going. For me, it’s fueled by living in New York, a glorious, ever-changing window to the world,” says American fashion designer Donna Karan.

This year, Karan celebrates 30 years in the business with her Fall 2014 30th Anniversary collection that is everything she is – strong, recognizable and passionate. Karan’s admiration for New York City comes to life in all of her collections, but this season it’s most evident in the palette: black, shades of gray, camel and pops of ruby and white. As always, powerful women are at the core of her iconic designs. This season everything is slim, belted, long, lean and leggy. Karan’s craftsmanship and attention-to-detail are what set her apart. The glistening cutwork of blocks and beads and the urban-inspired masculine jackets are standouts in the anniversary collection. Luckily for us, Karan’s journey continues. Here, she reflects on her evolution and tells us about her secret talent.
