Eddie Borgo Strikes Gold

Cones, cubes, pyramids—those are some of the urban-edgy design motifs Eddie Borgo introduced to the fashion world with the launch of his eponymous jewelry collection in 2009. Since then, the 35-year-old New Yorker has earned a rabid following for his tough-chic baubles plated (and occasionally crystal-paved) in silver, gunmetal, and pink or yellow gold. Now comes something a bit—no, make that a lot—more precious: a pair of cuffs in solid 18-karat yellow gold.

The design mimics the look of a five-bangle stack that, in Borgo’s words, “represents a synthesis of all our most coveted signature silhouettes.” Though the cuffs initially appear identical, they are in fact mirror images—one meant for the right arm, one for the left—and made from separate molds, which means each half of the set is technically one-of-a-kind.

“It’s funny,” says Borgo of his first foray into fine jewelry. “I’ve wanted to do this personally for so long, and when we finally finished the pieces we had them in our possession for less than 24 hours before they had to go off to Cannes.” The cuffs debuted at the high- wattage film festival, partnered with Versace couture in a Carine Roitfeld–directed runway show benefiting amfAR.

The $65,000 stunners made it safely home, but only for the briefest stop before heading on to their next destination: the Precious Jewels Salon at Neiman Marcus. We suspect it’s only temporary.
