Three designers, each from a different continent, are making news with beach-ready collections that tap a universal bohemian spirit. Model-turned-designer Alessandra Ambrosio draws from her Brazilian heritage and jet-setting lifestyle for the four-year-old label ÁLE BY ALESSANDRA. Cutouts, crochet, and fringe add interest to pieces Ambrosio characterizes as “Brazil-bohemia meets Malibu-chic,” including this halter style. Half a world away, Australian artist and designer Camilla Franks uses graphic prints, intricate details, and crystal embellishments to create free-spirited looks for her ten-year-old brand, CAMILLA.
Known for breezy tunics and caftans with an international air, FIGUE reflects the well-traveled background and stellar design resume of its founder, Stephanie von Watzdorf. The daughter of a French-German art dealer and Russian ballerina worked with Giorgio Armani, Ralph Lauren, and Tory Burch before launching her own brand in 2012. The name (pronounced fig, btw) was a favorite fresh-picked treat on the Italian island where she spent summers as a child.
