Going Grey with Jason Wu
June 10, 2016
“Grey taps into a more relaxed attitude with casual charm. I was thinking about the things my friends would want to wear every day.” —Jason Wu
From signature ‘Grey La Vie’ and ‘The Grey’ cocktails to a rich color palette inspired by artist Hunt Slonem’s vibrant world, the launch of Grey Jason Wu was an evening that embodied the designer’s signature details.
The personal, lighthearted nature of Grey Jason Wu, Jason’s latest diffusion line, came with a dinner experience to match. We celebrated the new collection this past Wednesday evening during the first in the dinner series hosted by the designer himself. Among a small and intimate gathering of close friends, the event reflected Jason’s passion for entertaining at home.
Grey Jason Wu is a nod to the designer’s favorite color and his “beloved grey T-shirt.” The collection flaunts a casual charm and maintains the familiar delicacy of its sister line, the Jason Wu collection.
To truly capture the spirit of collaboration—a recurring facet to the collection—Jason enlisted dynamic, vibrant female chefs for the event, each epitomizing the spirit of the Grey girl.
Created for the laidback, modern woman, the collection provides a seasonless and timeless wardrobe with a sense of understated femininity and uncomplicated chic. It features thoughtfully constructed pieces with whimsical details such as trompe l’oeil pockets and contrast topstitching. In addition to Jason’s signature hue, the palette boasts a rich color scheme of marine blue and deep forest green with accents of tangerine and pale pink.
Jason aims to occupy the space between overtly edgy and overly sweet. He finds his designs as an outlet to express his love of art and will feature a collaborative element each season—like multicolored jacquard and embroidered knits with bunny motifs by artist Hunt Slonem appearing this fall.
