March 16, 2015
As South By Southwest Interactive continues this week, we turn the spotlight on Katherine Keating, a former Director of Keating Consulting, where she advised international corporations, governments, think tanks and not-for-profit organizations. In her current roles as executive producer of One On One, an online interview series that discusses current affairs, and CEO of Keating Company International, she produces online content, documentaries and films, with a focus on social impact. Keating is also a contributing editor to The World Post, which is a joint venture between The Huffington Post and the Berggruen Institute on Governance. Here, she shares her thoughts on business and technology.
NM: Neiman Marcus is celebrating “Noisemakers”—bold women with bold voices. What does making some noise mean to you?
KK: Raising awareness.
NM: As executive producer of One on One, you’ve talked with countless inspiring women. Was there a favorite? Why?
KK: Jacqueline Novogratz, the founder of Acumen. She’s empowering the bottom billion to empower themselves.
NM: If you could interview any woman (present or past), who would it be? What would you ask?
KK: Hillary Clinton. Can you announce that you are running for President?
NM: Does being a woman impact your role as a CEO?
KK: No. I don’t see myself as a woman CEO, just as a CEO.
NM: Advice for budding entrepreneurs who’d like to launch their own businesses?
KK: Always take the meeting—you never know what will come of it.
NM: Your production company focuses on social impact. What’s the most rewarding part of your job?
KK: Knowing that the series promotes issues that are otherwise underrepresented.
NM: On staying connected: Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Skype…What are you into and what do you skip?
KK: Never been on Facebook, never will. Instagram’s cool, but I rely on Twitter for most of my news.
NM: Your most recent social media update?
KK: My latest One on One series interview.
NM: App you use every day?
NM: When it’s time to unwind, what’s your favorite way to de-stress?
