NYFW Day 3
September 9, 2013
Reporting daily from New York Fashion Week.
10:00 am – Prabal Gurung, Spring 2014
Prabal Gurung strayed away from the conventional fashion show this season. The show’s opening looks included all of the models walking out. The models marched to the the middle of the room and stood like statues beneath clear plastic panels. The collection’s pastels and bright whites glowed from underneath the clear, textured structure. One by one, the models exited for their turns on the runway. Gurung mentioned that he wanted the audience to see the clothing for a longer period of time. Thankfully, the Fifties-silhouette and intricate workmanship offered plenty to see.
5:00pm – Tibi, Spring 2014
According to Tibi designer Amy Smilovic, the Spring 2014 collection represents the simultaneous joy and grit of a metaphorical road trip from Asia to Arizona. Primal elements from a journey made in nature are celebrated: the greys of tire tracks, the reflection of blue skies on rice paddies, succulents, and desert skylines.
7:00pm – Altuzarra, Spring 2014
“In mood, in spirit, I wanted something that felt easy, something that women would want to wear in summer,” says Joseph Altuzarra.
