NYFW Day 4
February 11, 2014
Reporting from New York Fashion Week.
10:00am Carolina Herrera
The excitement about the Carolina Herrera collection started on the front row. Emmy Rossum and Anna Kendrick sat together and front and center was Dita Von Teese, right next to Herrera’s daughter and granddaughter. The collection addressed proportions and architectural forms. Herrera embraced rounded sleeves and cocoon silhouettes alongside more casual looks – an ombré fur sweater was worn with wool plaid pants – finishing off with softly draped gowns, many in bold graphic prints.
10:30am The Row
Designers Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen opened their show with an oversized camel sweater and matching long skirt, and the enormous pieces proceeded to swish down the runway. There were voluminous coats and jackets, enormous scarves and flared skirts that looked as though they might graze the floor at any moment. The designers accessorized the demure looks with men’s oxfords and crocodile bucket bags, which made a sophisticated statement. – KS
1:00pm Ohne Titel
Ohne Titel designers Alexa Adams and Flora Gill took their signature fit-and-flare silhouettes and knits to a new level with texture – tufted sleeves of a knit sweater or shiny silver on a stovepipe pant. The designers combined neoprene, deerskin, knits, and shiny shearling in moto jackets, vests and coats. The Fall 2014 collection offered several standout outerwear options. – KS
Designer Michelle Smith called Milly’s Fall collection ‘Dusk’ as it represented the transition of twilight blushes into the dark, sparkly night tones. The silhouette matched the overall shapes of the season – midi skirts, high-waisted pants and easy faux-fur sweaters. For a more refined version she paired gold sequins and her statement reflective leather pieces with oversized lamb fur coats and vests. The beauty look was minimal – low ponytails, brushed brows and pink lips.
3:00pm 3.1 Phillip Lim
The beauty look backstage at 3.1 Phillip Lim was about luminous dewy skin and a nude lip. The key to perfect skin is applying a primer, creamy foundation with a mattifier and cream blush. The hair was heavily gelled, piecey and pushed back. Lim’s Fall 2014 collection was bright and cheerful with patchwork shearlings, tons of sun-washed pales and mixed media dresses. The vibrant collection will be a delight to wear come Fall. – KS
5:00pm Alice + Olivia
Stacy Bendet put on a show at the McKittrick Hotel! Guests walked up a dark stairway that led to a rhythm and blues bar where “Fever” was playing and rose champagne was poured to all VIP guests, including Zosia Mamet of Girls. Moving forward, the collection was scattered across the venue, which was transformed into a whimsical recollection of fairy tales. The clothes were separated into themes and we saw everything from ethnic references, colorful metallics nodding the Studio 54 era, black and white knitwear and furs, baroque brocades and feminine lace pieces.
