NYFW Day 6
September 11, 2013
Reporting daily from New York Fashion Week.
9:00am – Tory Burch, Spring 2014
“The easy glamour of the French Riviera in the late 1960s — inspired by Romy Schneider’s character in La Piscine — mixed with garden elements. Blueprint, botanical, lattice, Queen Anne’s lace and folly prints are paired with cleaner silhouettes and proportions in a fresh palette of green, white and coral.” — Tory
12:00pm – Rodarte, Spring 2014
Rocker Chic continues at Rodarte. Designers Kate and Laura Mulleavy were inspired by Los Angeles: hair metal bands, the Sunset Strip, rockabilly, Old Hollywood and the 1980s. -KS
2:00pm – Naeem Khan, Spring 2014
This season Naeem Khan’s exquisitely detailed and romantic dresses reflected Latin culture, especially a Spanish rose motif. With a lush vertical garden as a backdrop, the collection was evocative of traveling and dancing, right up to the showstopping bridal moment. -JS
4:00pm – Marc by Marc Jacobs, Spring 2014
After years at the 69th Regiment Armory, the brand showed at Pier 57 on the Hudson River, which felt much more right for a brand with so much downtown attitude. Jacobs’ soundtrack stood up for free speech, asking “What would Pussy Riot do?” His collection rendered retro-sporty ideas in sateen fabrics with short hems. Every look was anchored by thick-soled white sneakers. -JS
5:30pm – Elie Tahari, Spring 2014
All the top brass of Neiman Marcus came to congratulate Elie Tahari on his 40th anniversary. Under a white canopy, models posed on white pedestals while guests clinked wine and champagne glasses. The looks, mostly white or black, layered up various transparent fabrics in intriguing yet office-appropriate ways. After all, the brand is the mainstay of the working girl. -JS
