A Tale of Two Cities: Chanel’s Métiers d’Art Paris in Rome Collection
August 4, 2016
Chanel’s 2015-2016 Paris in Rome Métiers d’Art collection, presented in Rome’s historic Cinecittà Studios, celebrated Parisian film-noir style through the patinaed lens of an Italian cinema. The collection, Chanel’s pre-fall equivalent, transcended the vintage romanticism ideals of ’60s-era Paris and transported them to one of Rome’s most well known stages: Teatro 5.
Creative Director Karl Lagerfeld’s creations from the city of love truly overwhelmed the audience with romanticism and a noteworthy, sophisticated, and entirely Parisian nod to sensuality.
Among signature tweed two-piece sets were long jackets, leather ciré skirts, lace-clad legs, and pleated and embellished numbers. Patent coats and a quilted leather suit made their way into the mix as the show went on.
In the reimagined streets of Paris, the serpent-adorned mules and pointy-toed loafers accredited the Parisian commuter lifestyle.
Lara Stone, Bella Hadid, and others graced the runway in ’60s-esque messy, mock beehives and charcoal-rimmed eyes.
