The Art of Fashion, 20 Years!
September 11, 2014
It’s been two decades since The Art of Fashion campaign launched in 1994. A 24-page portfolio in Harper’s Bazaar, it featured 30 forward-thinking designer looks shot by one of the world’s most iconic photographers, Richard Avedon. The campaign was the first of its kind, leaving an indelible mark in fashion history.
Over the years, NM has continued The Art of Fashion every Spring and Fall, showcasing the season’s most exhilarating fashion through the lens of best-in-class photographers like Annie Leibovitz, Peggy Sirota, and Arthur Elgort. It’s been admired, loved, and lauded—even recognized by Time magazine as one of the top advertising campaigns.
And now, as we celebrate its 20th anniversary, we’re welcoming a new name to the AOF ranks: Tel Aviv-born, London-based photographer Nadav Kander. His 2014 spread proves without question: The Art of Fashion is just as compelling as ever. And because we can’t help but reminisce, we invited ten previous AOF photographers back to contribute to the September issue of the book. Their spreads highlights the best of Fall fashion and reminds us of the beauty these photographers have shared with us over the years. So even though it’s not of drinking age, we’re raising a glass in its honor.
