Flight of the Mariposa
January 6, 2015
Favorable weather and the serendipitous snap of an iPad produced the image for this issue’s cover of the book. Colombia-born photographer Anita Calero was flying from her home in New York to her beach house in San Andrés, Colombia, when she spotted the Cayo Bolívar, a butterfly-shaped coral reef along the San Andrés y Providencia archipelago that’s typically cloaked in fog. The self-described “butterfly freak” sent her window-seat photo to NM Creative Director Georgia Christensen, who thought it fitting to capture the spirit of our Resort issue. Here’s hoping Calero’s homage to NM’s winged icon will inspire a season of style—and perhaps the chance to sink your toes in the sand.
