Sole Man Edoardo Caovilla
March 27, 2014
In the universe of shoes, the word decadent turns up one name: René Caovilla. The 80-year-old Venetian shoe atelier employs artisans who create the labor-intensive jeweled creations by hand. Many of these master craftspeople have been with the company for more than 60 years. On a recent trip to the U.S., third-gen shoe designer and the company’s creative director, Eduardo Caovilla, showed off the brand’s latest at Dallas’ Neiman Marcus NorthPark.
In honor of the house’s eight decades in business (the oldest shoe brand in the world, reports Edoardo), the Caovillas looked to their archives to reimagine a collection of 10 of their iconic styles exclusively for Neiman Marcus. There’s no skimping on details, sparkle and come-hither in this lavish shoe assortment, ranging from flat sandals to stilettos. As Edoardo puts it, “Feet are a very sensual part of a woman, and when a woman has sexy shoes, she feels sexy all around.” The designer divulged that there’s more Caovilla glamour in the seasons ahead, when the brand rolls out a handbag collection, followed by a showing of costume bijoux. We imagine women will be clicking their heels in anticipation.
