#NMweddings: Summer Mohn’s Timeless Wedding
March 31, 2014
Summer Mohn has worked at Neiman Marcus for more than fours years, so it’s no surprise we found out about her upcoming wedding at Piazza in the Village in Colleyville, Texas.
Blush tones and white bouquets of hydrangeas, roses, tea roses, and ranunculus made for a dream-like wedding, not to mention the shocking pink touches in Mohn’s Manolo Blahnik d’Orsay shoes and her old-Hollywood crystal comb. Mohn shares photos and thoughts about one of the happiest days of her life.
“I’ve been planning my wedding since I was little, and not in the sense that all little girls do. I knew every detail of what I wanted and never changed my style. When Sean and I finally got engaged, I immediately called all my vendors and had everything confirmed pretty early on. The whole planning process was the easiest and most natural experience. When I say I had my dream wedding, I really mean it in every sense. It could not have been more perfect or gone more smoothly.”
“My younger sister, Krystal, was my matron of honor. We are only two years apart, and she is my best friend. She was the most incredible matron of honor anyone could have ever asked for and made everything leading up to the wedding absolutely perfect. I think because Sean and I had been together so long my whole family was waiting for this day just as much as I was, and Krystal, along with my mother, made sure my dream wedding came true.”
“It was very important for me to look like myself but at my absolute best on our wedding day. I wanted to be classic and timeless. The crystal comb in my hair reminded me of something old world and that I could pass down some day. I chose to wear my hair half up because my hair is kind of “my thing,” and I wanted it to be flowing. As for my makeup, airbrush is magic! My makeup artist was incredible. I come from the beauty world and to say that I am a beauty junky is an understatement. I kept the colors neutral, but definitely had to have my signature lip color on, Tom Ford Pink Dusk is the most perfect pink!”
“Our first dance was to A Thousand Years by Christina Perri. There are three songs in this world that touch my soul, and that was one of them. I had been dreaming of dancing with Sean to that song for what seemed like a thousand years and to finally experience that moment was beautiful. While we were dancing, we both kept saying, “I can’t believe we’re married,” and we felt like we were the only people in the room.”
I don’t think there is another shoe that is more perfect for a wedding than the Manolo Blahnik Satin d’Orsay. The heel height, comfort, crystals, all around, the most beautiful wedding shoe. But to get them in pink? I am obsessed with pink, but I didn’t want major pink details in the bridesmaids’ dresses or bouquets. When I saw these on NeimanMarcus.com, I had to have them. It was the perfect amount of pink to pay tribute to my obsession.
“As soon as we got engaged, I went to try on dresses with my mom and sister. Dress after dress, my mom would say “yes, no, beautiful, not so much.” I saved this one for last, but my mom and sister had no idea that this was the dress I had already chosen for myself. As I walked out of the dressing room, I see my sister’s reflection in the mirror. She had only gotten a small glimpse, but her hands covered her mouth and she started crying. I walked to the center of the room, and my mom’s face lit up, and she started crying. Neither one of them knew how I had already felt, but I said “It’s a good thing you had that reaction, because this is it regardless of what anyone thinks!”
“Sean and I met while in college. Meeting that young, there were definitely some growing pains, and my patience was definitely tested. But looking back, I can say that patience really is a virtue. I think the timing worked out the way it was supposed to, and that is why the planning process was so easy. On the day of the wedding, it was almost surreal that we had finally gotten to this point. Pure and incessant bliss is how I would describe how I felt that day.”
“I am so blessed to have these incredible women in my life. Each one of them is the most beautiful person inside and out, and they are truly my soul mates. Oddly enough, I do not live near any of them, but I guess that is also a testament to our deep friendship.”
“As soon as I stepped into the chapel at the Piazza in the Village, I knew I had to be married there. The giant chandeliers, pearled columns, elegant lighting and spiritual feel could not be matched. This was a place I knew I could look back on my wedding pictures and it would always be able to take my breath away.”
