Santa Barbara is an easy getaway from Los Angeles, just an hour and a half drive along the coast. This easy, breezy coastal community is home to year-round balmy beach weather, a bevvy of artists and some of the best Mexican food the state of California has to offer. “It’s one of my favorite weekend escapes,” says native Los Angeles travel journalist and NM insider Stephanie Steinman. Steinman recently launched LePostcard.com, a website profiling the travel-habits of influencers around the world. Here, Steinman shares her favorite Santa Barbara spots with The Blog.

NM: Where you stayed:
SS: I usually stay with friends (the homes in Santa Barbara are so dreamy) but this time I stayed at the Four Seasons Biltmore. The hotel is incredible and has a real California-Spanish flair. The gardens and grounds are so beautiful, and you can borrow bikes to get out and explore.

NM: Places to eat:
SS: Eating at La Super-Rica Taqueria is a must! It’s a small taco stand with the most incredible Mexican food you can imagine. The line is always long and includes everyone from college kids to uber-wealthy business moguls. I’ve even driven up from L.A. just to get it and then driven home (yup, it’s that good!) For dinner, I always go to Lucky’s. I run into so many friends there—it’s like the local watering hole! Their martinis are fantastic!

NM: Summer treats:
SS: When you’re looking for a sweet treat after dinner, a stop at McConnell’s Fine Ice Creams is like a rite of passage. It’s usually jam-packed and always delicious. Rori’s Artisanal Creamery is another favorite—I love all of their unusual flavors, like lavender + honey!

NM: To Do:
SS: One of the coolest places in Santa Barbara is the Coral Casino beach club. It is the epitome of California chic—and totally reminds me of something from The Flamingo Kid (so old school!). You have to be a member to go, but guests of the Four Seasons can purchase day passes. It’s so special and a great way to spend the afternoon.

The Santa Barbara Bowl is also one of my favorite ways to spend an evening. Sitting in the open air, under the stars, listening to great music…heaven! I’ve seen everyone from Bruce Springsteen to James Taylor perform there—it’s a great spot!

NM: Packing:
SS: I packed a lot of dresses from Isabel Marant—her pieces are so great for summer travel. I also brought sandals from K.Jacques and Ancient Greek Sandals (one in black and one in tan), as well as a pair of red Superga sneakers. A few bikinis from Eres (they make the best swimwear!) I love white jeans all year round and packed a pair from Current Elliott. A jean jacket from Levi’s for chilly nights and a striped cashmere sweater from Kule (I have a strange obsession with stripes!). I stuffed all of it into a large Goyard tote—which also doubled as my beach bag.
