Last year was all about punk, studs and rebels. This year was all about princess-like ball gowns, volume, sculptural shapes – and more volume! The fashion industry’s creme de la creme and style icons gathered last night at New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art to celebrate “Charles James: Beyond Fashion,” showcasing the 20th-century American couturier. Although not uniformly adhering to the “white tie and decorations” dress code, gentlemen looked dapper in white dinner jackets, velvet tuxedos and quintessential black tailcoats with white bow ties, while ladies matched the sophistication in an array of black-and-white gowns. Some of the more daring attendees channeled Josephine Baker in fun, beaded dresses reminiscent of the ’20s. Others displayed a modern fairy-tale look with copious layers of tulle. Here are our red-carpet favorites of the night – which looks do you love?
